WD06 Ramblings Day 3

Thursday, September 28, 2006

Kelly Goto spoke about the how the successful design of devices to fit into our everyday lives requires the observation of what people do everyday.

Jeremy Keith spoke about AJAX and how it's nothing but useless rubbish unless it enhances people's everyday web experiences without adding confusion or needless impediments.

Thomas Vander Wal discussed how Information Architecture is all about understanding people and how they use & consume information every day.

Dave & Ben from Campaign Monitor explained that to build a successful app you need only give people just the bits they need and nothing more.

John Allsopp showed us that the promise of Microformats is possibility. People are smart but software is stupid. Microformats allows software to do smart things for people.

Dereck Featherstone told us that accessibility is more than a checklist; it's user experience, is using a website a positive experience. How do we find this out? We observe real people, we observe what's happening in the real world.

I think I see a pattern here!
