Success and Its People
Tuesday, January 3, 2006I've realised that the success of any endeavour depends directly on the people involved. Now that's a pretty obvious thing to say. But when it comes to employers and IT positions it seems to be forgotten. IT positions are generally filled via recruitment agencies and those agencies seem to examine only the presence of acronyms in CVs.
But, in my short experience, the personality of an employee trumps both qualifications and experience in determining their quality as an employee. Regardless of age, experience and existing skill sets the following personal qualities make the most valuable employees:
- desire for knowledge and self improvement
- open to change
- dedication to quality
- honesty and loyalty
- seeks accountability and responsibility
- understanding of what is not known and willingness to ask for help
- willingness to share their expertise.
Experience and skills can be gained on the job, the above qualities will guarantee a good employee.
